Find answers to the most common questions about applying for a Malaysia Electronic Visa (eVisa) — requirements, processing time, validity, eligible countries, and more.
The Malaysia eVisa (Electronic Visa) is an official online travel authorisation issued by the Malaysian Immigration Department. It allows eligible foreign nationals from 35+ countries to visit Malaysia for tourism, business, or social visits without visiting an embassy. Once approved, the eVisa is sent digitally to your email — no passport stamp required.
Malaysia offers three eVisa types:
Tourist eVisa — for leisure, holidays, and visiting friends/family.
Business eVisa — for business meetings, conferences, and corporate visits (not for paid employment).
Social Visit eVisa — for social events, cultural exchanges, and family reunions.
Citizens of 35 eligible countries can apply, including India, China, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Bhutan, Myanmar, Serbia, Montenegro, and several African nations including Afghanistan, Angola, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Congo, Ethiopia, Ghana, Nigeria, and more. Check the full eligible countries list on our Malaysia eVisa page.
The Malaysia eVisa includes a Tourist category, but it is not exclusively a tourist visa. The eVisa system covers three purposes: Tourist, Business, and Social Visit. It is the electronic equivalent of a traditional visa, issued digitally and linked to your passport number — no physical sticker in your passport.
No. An approved Malaysia eVisa does not guarantee entry. Final admission is subject to the approval of the Malaysian Immigration Department officer at the entry checkpoint. You must carry all required documents including your eVisa, valid passport, return ticket, MDAC, and proof of accommodation.
Apply in 3 steps: (1) Complete the Malaysia eVisa online application form with your personal, passport, and travel details. (2) Upload required documents and pay securely online. (3) Receive your approved eVisa by email within 3 business days. The entire process is online — no embassy visit required. Start your application here.
You must upload the following documents:
We recommend applying at least 7–10 business days before your travel date to allow sufficient processing time. Standard processing takes 3 business days, but applying earlier gives you time to address any queries or re-submit documents if needed.
Yes. The Malaysia eVisa online application can be submitted from anywhere in the world. However, the eVisa is linked to your passport and nationality. If you are applying from a country other than your own, ensure your passport nationality matches an eligible country. You cannot apply for an eVisa while already inside Malaysia.
You can edit your information on the eVisa application page before payment. Once payment is made, corrections cannot be made to the submitted application. If you have already received an approved eVisa with incorrect details, you must reapply with a new application containing the correct information matching your travel documents.
No. The Malaysia eVisa process is entirely online — all documents are uploaded digitally. Physical document submission is not required unless specifically requested by the Malaysian Immigration Mission Office during the review process.
If you are unable to provide an invitation letter, write a cover letter in English (PDF format) addressed to the Immigration Officer explaining why you cannot provide the requested document. Upload this letter in the relevant section of your application. There is no specific format required.
Enter the address of the hotel, accommodation, or residence where you will be staying in Malaysia. If you are staying with a friend or relative, provide their full address and include a cover letter stating your name, passport number, and your host's details. Upload both documents in the accommodation section.
Surname and given name are not mandatory fields if not present in your passport. Fill in the information exactly as it appears in your passport. If your passport has only one name, enter it in the applicable field and leave the other blank.
Standard Malaysia eVisa processing takes 3 business days (Monday to Friday, excluding Malaysian public holidays). Once approved, your eVisa is sent to the email address provided in your application. Processing time may vary during peak periods or if additional documents are required.
Malaysia eVisa fees vary by visa type (Tourist, Business, or Social) and nationality. Our service fee includes the government processing fee and our assistance fee. Visit our Malaysia Visa Fees page for the latest fee structure, or check the fee displayed during the application process.
eVisa applications are assessed on individual merit. The Malaysian Immigration Department reserves the right to refuse an application without providing a reason. Common causes include: incomplete documents, incorrect information, insufficient funds, or previous immigration issues. If rejected, you may reapply — ensure all documents meet the requirements before resubmitting.
The Malaysia eVisa is valid for 90 days from the date of issue. You must enter Malaysia within this 90-day validity period. The eVisa is a single-entry visa, allowing you to stay up to 30 days per visit.
You can stay in Malaysia for a maximum of 30 days per entry. Overstaying beyond the permitted period is a serious immigration offence. You may be subject to fines, detention, or a ban on future entry to Malaysia.
No. The Malaysia eVisa does not allow extensions. You must depart Malaysia before your 30-day stay expires. If you need to stay longer, you must exit Malaysia and apply for a new eVisa or the appropriate visa category from outside Malaysia.
No. If your new travel date is still within the 90-day validity of your approved eVisa, you do not need to reapply. You can use the same approved eVisa for your revised travel date, as long as you enter Malaysia within the validity period.
No. The Malaysia eVisa must be obtained before arriving in Malaysia. Applications submitted from within Malaysia are not accepted. If you are already in Malaysia, you must contact the Malaysian Immigration Department directly for any visa extension or change of status.
Both printed and digital copies of the Malaysia eVisa are accepted at all entry checkpoints. You can show your eVisa on your mobile phone or laptop, or carry a printed A4 copy (black and white is acceptable). Ensure the eVisa is clearly visible with all details readable.
You must present the following at Malaysia's entry checkpoint:
Your Malaysia eVisa allows entry through all gazetted Malaysian Entry-Exit Points — including international airports (KLIA, KLIA2, Penang International, Kota Kinabalu), sea ports, and land border crossings. Ensure your eVisa details match your passport before travelling.
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from your intended date of entry into Malaysia. Additionally, your passport should have at least 2 blank pages for immigration stamps. Passports failing to meet these requirements may result in denied entry.
Your eVisa will be considered invalid if the information does not match your passport. You must reapply for a new eVisa with the correct details matching your travel documents. Do not attempt to enter Malaysia with a mismatched eVisa as it will be rejected at the checkpoint.
The Malaysia Digital Arrival Card (MDAC) is a mandatory pre-arrival declaration required for all travellers entering Malaysia, regardless of nationality. It replaces the old paper arrival/departure card. The MDAC must be completed online before your arrival in Malaysia and is separate from the eVisa.
Yes. The MDAC is mandatory for all travellers entering Malaysia — including eVisa holders. You need both a valid eVisa and a completed MDAC to enter Malaysia. Complete your MDAC online before departure. Apply for MDAC here.
The MDAC should be completed within 3 days before your arrival in Malaysia. Do not complete it too far in advance. Ensure the details in your MDAC match your passport and eVisa exactly. Complete your MDAC online here.
